French lentil Seeds or Lentils (Lens culinaris) are the earliest domesticated crops. These are a delicious and widely grown sprouting seed and non-GMO plant. They have been traditionally sown to replenish nitrogen content in garden soil while breaking up tough soils. French lentil seed is cultivated for its firm roots known to help minimize garden erosion. This improve soil tilth and structure bolstering weed suppression. Lentil roots are also popularly left untilled in the garden, in which gardeners trust in the power of the roots to have restructured the garden soil to best allow new root growth, drainage, weed control, and oxygen.
In cuisines of the Indian subcontinent lentils are a staple food, popularly called dal. These are often cooked into a thick curry/gravy that is usually eaten with rice or chapaties. Government of India is widely recommending its sowing as they assure good returns for the farmers and reducing the country’s dependency on exports thereby saving on forex reserve.
The french lentil seeds are grown based on the climate conditions. In the temperate climates lentils are planted in the winter and spring under low temperatures and vegetative growth occurs in later spring and the summer. In the subtropics, lentils are planted under relatively high temperatures at the end of the rainy season, and vegetative growth occurs on the residual soil moisture in the summer season. Rainfall during this time is limited. In West Asia and North Africa, some lentils are planted as a winter crop before snowfall. Plant growth occurs during the time of snow melting. Under such cultivation, seed yields are often much higher.
